چکیده

Traffic modeling is a fertile research area. This paper proposes a packet-level traffic model of traffic sources based on Hidden Markov Model. It has been developed by using real network traffic and estimating in a combined fashion Packet Size and Inter Packet Time. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated by studying several traffic types with strong differences in terms of both applications/users and protocol behavior. Indeed, we applied our model to real traffic traces of Age of Mythology (a Multi Player Network Game), SMTP, and HTTP. An analytical basis and the mathematical details regarding the model are given. Results show how the proposed model captures first-order statistics, as well as temporal dynamics via autoand cross-correlation. Also, the capability to accurately replicate the considered traffic sources is shown. Finally, preliminary results for model-based traffic prediction reveal encouraging.

Intelligent Traffic Management System for Prioritizing Emergency Vehicles in a Smart City (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Traffic congestion worldwide has led to loss of human lives due to failure in transporting accident victims, critical patients, medical equipment and medicines on time. With the unending growth in vehicular traffic everywhere, Internet of Things (IOT) and Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) have embarked as a promising platform for an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Many researches h...

Alert correlation and prediction using data mining and HMM

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) are security tools widely used in computer networks. While they seem to be promising technologies, they pose some serious drawbacks: When utilized in large and high traffic networks, IDSs generate high volumes of low-level alerts which are hardly manageable. Accordingly, there emerged a recent track of security research, focused on alert correlation, which ext...

Lightweight Internet Traffic Classification based on Packet Level Hidden Markov Models

During the last decade, Internet traffic classification finds its importance not only to safeguard the integrity and security of network resources, but also to ensure the quality of service for business critical applications by optimizing existing network resources. But optimization at first place requires correct identification of different traffic flows. In this paper, we have suggested a fra...

Adaptive Online Traffic Flow Prediction Using Aggregated Neuro Fuzzy Approach

Short term prediction of traffic flow is one of the most essential elements of all proactive traffic control systems. Although various methodologies have been applied to forecast traffic parameters, several researchers have showed that compared with the individual methods, hybrid methods provide more accurate results . These results made the hybrid tools and approaches a more common method for ...
